Children’s Swimming Lessons

Overview

Children’s Swimming Lessons at West Wight Sports and Community Centre on the Isle of Wight help children learn one of the most important life skills in a safe, supportive and structured environment. We are proud to have taught hundreds of children to swim, supporting confidence, safety and lifelong enjoyment of being in the water.

Our lessons are delivered by qualified and experienced swimming instructors and are suitable for a wide range of abilities, from complete non‑swimmers to more advanced swimmers. We offer a variety of lesson options to support families across the Isle of Wight community, including term‑time lessons, private one‑to‑one sessions and school holiday intensive courses, offered to residents and visiting families.

Children are encouraged to learn at their own pace, build confidence and develop strong swimming foundations in a friendly and inclusive setting.

Lesson Options Available

Term‑Time Children’s Swimming Lessons

Term‑time lessons run alongside the school term and include both beginner swimmers in the learner pool and more advanced swimmers in the main pool. Courses typically consist of 6, 7 or 8 weekly half‑hour lessons.

Children must be at least 4 years old to begin lessons, although names can be added to the waiting list in advance. Once allocated a space, families are given priority re‑booking for future lesson blocks, subject to payment by the advised date.

Private Children’s Swimming Lessons

Private lessons offer one‑to‑one tuition with a qualified swimming instructor, allowing sessions to be tailored to your child’s individual needs. These are ideal for children who benefit from focused support or flexible scheduling.

To arrange a private lesson, please leave your contact details at reception and an instructor will be in touch to discuss availability.
