Well done and Thank You

Swimmers as young as 4 and up to 76 years old completed their own personal swimming goals – individually or as a team (and all with their own fundraising targets!). These incredible 35 swimmers covered over 90km, raising over £2500. It was a fantastic atmosphere with plenty of centre members and many of West Wight Swimming Club’s members in attendance, either swimming or dedicating their time to support and volunteer.

Honourable mentions go to:

⭐ Elora Briscoe, who at just 4yrs old completed 2 lengths of the small pool.

⭐ Elliott Briscoe, having only ever previously swum in the learner pool recently achieved his 25m – and then swum it again and again until he reached 200 metres!

⭐ Marley, Jake, Junior, James and Will – all 14 and under who completed a whopping 5000m (that’s 200 lengths individually and 1000 lengths in total!)

⭐ Amelie Chick who battled some nerves on the day but inspired by other swimmers swam a huge 2500m at just 8 years of age.

⭐ Lenny Hassan-Green had heart surgery around 15 months ago and managed to swim 1000m.

⭐ Stuart Galvin, who flew the flag for the West Wight Master’s Team. Not just completing a 1500m swim but a bonus 400I.M. (4 lengths of each stroke discipline)

⭐ Head Coach of WWSC, Lottie. Lottie completed 15000m (600 lengths).

⭐ Ann Freeman. Sports Centre trustee, raising over £1000 for WWSCC.

It was an excellent day for all involved and it did not stop at the swimming! The centre was fortunate enough to host the teams from FILB and RNLI who ran water-safety talks, which also ran alongside a successful table-top sale.

Centre Manager, Clare Griffin said

“What a great day! It was so inspiring to see so many people of all ages and abilities joining in and setting their own challenges with many of them exceeding their own goals. Thank you to everyone who swum, helped with counting lengths, donated and cheered everyone on. We are already planning next years event!”

A huge thank you to each and every person who gave up their time to support the centre. Whether it was donations, running a stall, lap-counting or taking on a swim – every effort from each person is greatly appreciated and will help the centre to continue to thrive!

Keep your eyes peeled on your emails and social media announcing the lucky winners of the 4 £20 Funkita Vouchers and other goodies!!!
